Your dad completely won at life by raising a kind, compassionate & extremely moral son. Your pride for him is very warranted. Sending positive vibes for his rapid recovery in his current health challenges.
I am so glad your dad had a positive experience. This is how we should receive all immigrants. Immigrants make our society stronger and more vibrant. Imagine a society in which everyone is the same. Who can learn anything from other people under such circumstances? Life is interesting because of difference. Let's honor and cherish that.
You know Jim, from my little corner in northern NSW, Australia, a couple of years ago, I watched the episode of a show you were on, Finding Your Roots. I watched it specifically for this episode. Not only was it a fascinating show, but the stories you were able to express on that seemed to give you a sort of freedom.
Today’s episode of The Jim Acosta Show, also did that. Through this amazing medium you now have, not only do I get to watch and listen to you on a regular basis, but the stories and the humanity you express on it, also give you a freedom. Never let that go. Bringing the humanity to stories that you’re covering in what only can be best described as a humanitarian nightmare for these families, will continue to allow people not to lose touch with that part of them. It’s all too easy to go into survival mode and forget about others.
The American people I’ve met when I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to the US, were welcoming and so helpful (well, when they could understand what I was saying). The comments as your show rolls hasn’t changed my mind. I believe although we often see so much negative, the majority still have that kindness and empathy to them. It’s the minority who,at the moment, are louder than the majority.
It’s a beautiful picture of you and your dad. Take care of him, and of yourself.
I live in what has been called the refugee capitol of the world, Lancaster, PA. Church World Services has been a fixture in our community for years, really getting attention first with the "Boat People", in the mid 70's. Many, many refugees and immigrants received aid and various services in our cimmunity. The organization that had always been a source of pride has been devastated by the Trump Regime/;Cult and their ilk have fully crawled out from under their rocks full of hatred and fear of anyone not like them. How do we get back to kindness and loving service? I have no answers but I also know we must find a way.
1. I have been speaking out every single day since the election. Both on social media and here on my own Substack (since launching it in January 2025). I'm no Jim Acosta, but I'm doing what I can!
2. "You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear. You’ve got to be taught from year to year. It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear. You’ve got to be carefully taught!" --Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II
Really well stated Jim. We are changing as a country and as a society. And for many of us with elderly parents, it feels like we need to shelter them from all the awfulness in the world and give them the best time for the time they have left.
It sickens me to see this happening to people who want the same thing we all want. Trump has given the green light to racism. It amazes me how these "privileged" few have decided (for all of us) there are other human beings do not deserve to live free, that they are "different" from the rest "us"....US who came here from far and wide. I hate what this country has become and my heart bleeds for those who live in constant fear because of a tyrant who should be locked up himself.
Sad post but necessary. Jim, I literally paid to subscribe because of this video. I work with immigrants every day and the dehumanizing way the Trump administration is treating them is sick and must be stopped
I believe the hate has always existed; sometimes at levels that lead to death at the hands of those who think by the color of their skin they are better. I’m not certain we have ever been this selfish as a nation overall, where so many think they deserve something for nothing and if they don’t have it then it must be someone else’s fault. There have certainly been times when our leaders emphasized hate of others (think internment camps) and ordinary citizens were black listed, etc. These times were terribly dark (or so I would imagine as thankfully I wasn’t quite alive yet); but, we , the people in and of the United States 🇺🇸 stood up and said “that’s enough”, and as you have said “not on my watch.”
It’s our time to decide what we are willing to put up with and whether or not we will stand up for those who can’t and those who will give us nothing in return but trouble in our own “perfect” corners. Or we can bow our heads and hope “someone else” is stronger, smarter, richer, more powerful than us; but, it is up to us. We must look to our past to succeed in our future.
Glad to hear your dad is doing OK. The grade school teacher is an example of how great America was and should be. What the teacher did would be labelled as DEI today. If you want to make America great again, be like that teacher, not like those who treat human beings like animals and take pleasure in torturing people.
Asi es amigo. My mom has been in this country now for 57 years. This is the first time she’s ever told me that she has now felt unwelcome in this country where she labored for years, raised her children and helped raise her grandchildren. She was part of the American dream she came from Dominican Republicand worked in the close factories in New York City then in the early 2000s the jobs moved overseas then she went into taking care of kids. She is grateful for everything that she’s had in this country but for the first time, she feels very unwelcome. Trump is responsible for that.
I was born and raised in California where it's very diverse. My family moved to Texas and I followed. That was twenty years ago. I was appalled at the bad treatment of the Mexican immigrants. We didn't treat them like that in California and was shocked at how mean they were to them. The Southern states have been and still are very prejudice against them and Trump knows this. They voted for him so probably won't be much push back from them in fact the opposite.
I love your decency as a human being. Thank you for reminding us that we can all be decent human beings.
Steven Miller is a disgrace to the human race. He has only hatred for so many he sees as the “other” Shameful

Agreed !
Great post, Jim. Let's all meet in The Big Middle, where most Americans are

Thank you, Jo, for having faith in the majority of us in the U.S. who are hostages of a loud, morally corrupt, cruel, inhumane, evil minority.
Allies join together for the common good. We understand you. It’s important that the world doesn’t lump all USians in the same boat.

I say this with love. I’m really glad my parents aren’t around to bear witness to these atrocities.
I feel the same way about my parents, Kiera.

I’m about your father’s age and remember thinking we were supposed to treat immigrants that way because we were America.💔
