I agree with what Don is saying. I think a network is necessary because of what he mentioned about the cost of subscribing to so many Substackers. A subscription news network that promises not to interfere with reporter content is needed.
Yes! There is so much incredible content here. I wish I could afford to subscribe to all the Substacks I love. Hopefully there will be a plan for bundled packages in the future. Because this is the place to be. Yet, we still need network news (the saddest day I can imagine is the day we lose that), but finding so many of my favorite anchors and columnists on Substacks has helped to save my sanity. I don't feel alone. We are a growing and engaged community.
I'm old and tired, but I'm still planning to attend the protest at the local El Salvador consulate this afternoon *AND* the Hands Off mmarch and protest on Saturday.
Thanks for providing a forum for truth telling. A suggestion: Either convince Michael Cohen to stop calling Trump voters names and/or shaming them. We need people who voted for him the past election because of what they perceived as economic reasons, etc. — not his hardcore supporters — to hear the truth and stop supporting him and his suck ups. Telling these voters that they are morons or that they are reprehensible is not going to help. Is it cathartic? Sure. Will it be effective in pursuing our goals? No
So proud of myself today. I talked to 3 younger people (lol younger than me) at the grocery store to tell them about the Economic Blackout on April 18 and the National Rally Day April 19. Told them about Substack and Meidas + and Acosta and more.
You guys are the best. The two of you were my favourite anchors on CNN and now you are my favourite Substack Stars. Thank you for making sure that the truth gets out to all of us. People out here do care, very much. I live in Canada now but I spent the first half of my life in the U.S. and I want you to know that people in Canada care. This is one world and we, who care about democracy must stick together.
I am trying to push forward with cancelling Amazon. It is so convenient....but really. Why do I support an Oligarch that has bent the knee to the dictator. That is insane.
I went cold turkey to quit not only Amazon, but also Prime, Whole Foods, and Audible. Plus WaPo. If Bezos is part of it, I cancelled it or refuse to shop there any more. Inauguration Day was my D-Day. I cancelled WaPo when Bezos killed the Harris endorsement in the fall. All the other services I cancelled after that sickening Inauguation display where the billionaire bros were all members of the new king’s court. It was way easier to bail than I thought! Love supporting small businesses. Some things I used to buy on Amazon I now buy in the grocery store. And I have realized there are many things I can just do without. I am saving quite a bit. I remember the old adage “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without.” On that note, this weekend I’m heading to a newly opened thrift store. It’s more eco friendly, cheaper, and no tariffs on second hand goods!
Trump could not have been more clear on what he intended to do if he were reelected. And yes, he talked about retribution in several ways while at his rallies. I hope now that the nightmare of all that Trump described has come true, people will FINALLY cut through his gibberish and realize he's hiding his truth in plain sight, just waiting for the best time to strike. You know, Trump disarms people because intellectually he really is a moron, but when it comes to having a sly, diabolical lizard brain, he's pretty much at the top of that food chain. Plus, he surrounds himself with people identical to him so that if he can do something bad, he will and now there is no one to stop him. Maybe now, not even the courts.
Besides tfg's comment about deporting US citizens to El Salvador, putting people in the Social Security "dead" file that locks bank accounts, credit cards, and everything else should SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYONE.
totally agree that we have to get the correct/factual information out to the general public, we can't rely on main stream media. I think we will get there in time. We have to ask the members of all of the substack platforms to share this important information with their friends and family. I want to reassure you that I am protesting every weekend and giving money to organizations and candidates. thank you for what you do! keep it up!
I’m talking up Substack left and right, explaining what it is, helping people find and download the app on their phone, sharing my favorite pages and people, giving a heads up on programs and interviews that I think will be of interest, answering questions. I really start at zero, because 5 months ago I didn’t really know what it was. People don’t automatically know you can/will watch on your phone, it’s a lot of real-time, dynamic content (not just writing but that is a huge draw too!) you can watch livestreams, how to know when a livestream is starting, and especially people wonder if you have to pay for every Substack account you follow. So I talk through that too.
To fight apathy and win nationwide, immigration abuse may not be the best issue to mobilize around. Better issues might be social security or veterans or the price of food.
Just keep going with the truth!
It's the best way to kill lies.
Harvard got it right.

Keep inviting the politicians to your shows

I really enjoy Don and Jim discussions!! I learn more all the time from you!

Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Vets resonate with MAGA's. Pro-Democracy rally's this Saturday April 19th, "Holy Saturday".
