A CA Senator can't ask a question in a LA press conference without being thrown to the ground and handcuffed! Unacceptable 🛑!

Phyllis Logan's avatar

If you've been waiting and wondering when things were going to turn really bad, really dangerous, your wait is over.

And G's avatar

100% we are there, it’s now clear we are in a facist state and any pretending we are still following the rule of law can stop.

This is the rule of Trump - 100% against Constitution

Republican’s need to stop with the party bullshit and be Americans!

Speak out and make this stop

Our elected representatives CANNOT be treated this way.

Punkette's avatar

Sen. Padilla is the Ranking Member of the Senate Judicial Committee’s Immigration Subcommittee. He had every right to be there and ask questions.

Phyllis Logan's avatar

Sen. Padilla, instead of thinking of himself, was more concerned that if they can do this to a sitting U.S. Senator, imagine how they are treating abducted defenseless immigrants.

Greg's avatar

Our Democratic leaders in Congress should have been on this half an hour ago!! Not in an hour, not two hours. Where the hell are they?!

Jane in NC's avatar

They were. At least some of them. Kudos to Lisa Murkowski for having the courage to speak out against this treatment of a fellow senator.

Greg's avatar

Thanks, Jane! I saw that a couple of other senators have also responded.

We simply cannot wait until the cowardly Republicans are voted out of office in 2026. This behavior has to end NOW!

Jane in NC's avatar

OMG! Me either, Greg!

Tim_TEC's avatar

Did you see that Murkowski was the only Republican who said the right thing? Miss Lindsey "scoffed that Padilla 'got what he wanted, he’s on TV,'” while scumbag Barrasso also chimed in siding with the Puppy Killer's thugs. There is no comity left in the Senate, the collegiality is dead. The MAGAs are the party of thugs and fascists. If this had happened to a Republican senator, they'd have rioted on the Senate floor.

Jane in NC's avatar

Miss Lindsey is such a pet poodle, and Barrasso is just another coward. At least a republican woman still has moral clarity and a backbone. According to Sen. Chris Murphy, Padilla was escort into that presser by an FBI agent and a member of the Guard. Given what happened next, it's pretty clear the whole thing was a set up, and ICE Barbie knew about it in advance.

Clarissa Sr, American Grandma's avatar

Seriously, why the hell did Congressional Democrats play baseball against the republicans the other day? It was a disgrace!

Punkette's avatar

The only one who spoke out on the Senate floor was CA’s junior senator, Adam Schiff. Here is a link to his comments:

Jane in NC's avatar

OK, but that doesn't take away from the others who also voiced their outrage about this treatment of one of their colleagues. I'm glad Adam Schiff spoke on the senate floor, but I would certainly expect that from him, not only because he's a decent guy, but because Padilla is his California senior senator.

Punkette's avatar

I wrote that an hour ago and assume that many other Dem senators have since spoken out. How about Republicans? Anyone?

Jane in NC's avatar

I know Lisa Murkowski did. Haven't checked in a while. I would hope at least some republicans would have the decency to say Hell NO to this shit, but I'm not holding my breath.

Punkette's avatar

Oh good. Glad to hear Lisa did. I wish she would switch from R to Independent. Thanks, Jane.

I'm soooo sick of nice.

This is obscene and unAmerican. Heads should roll!

Felice Bachrach's avatar

We need a civil war. I hate to say this and it terrifies me, but we MUST fight this!

Linda 1048's avatar

The problem is that Trump and his moronic MAGAts have the firearms. They will shoot to kill. January 6th proved that.

Felice Bachrach's avatar

A civil war involves armies. This is not 1862. We need a large part of the army on our side. PS, every one I know has a gun.

Linda 1048's avatar

Trump has no intention of not sending our own military after us, the American people. And no, not everyone has a gun. I do not nor does anyone in my family.

Felice Bachrach's avatar

Obviously he will send the military. And it’s possible some of those will fight for us. Like happened in the Civil War. This is not about civilians fighting! When I say Civil War what do you think I’m talking about?

Erin's avatar

You’re mistaken to think maga are the only members of society to be armed. So far as your statement goes, I know far too many maga family, “friends” & neighbors living in a predominately red state who I agree to disagree with on the daily, and none of them have the desire to “pew pew” at anyone. There are extremists on both sides that will create violence on a good day. Normal every day citizens aren’t running around with the intent to harm their neighbors just because the giant orange bag of d*cks encourages it. I’ll give a little bit of credit to even people who voted for him that they’re not necessarily seething with their fingers in a trigger. Please don’t allow 🤡 to instill fear in you. There are still checks and balances in place and most of the gop in Washington are starting to give 🤡 the stink eye.

Kuguneenie's avatar

I wanna tel you what heard a few liberals/Dems say, quote, “MAGA should know this, we liberals also love our guns!” So I would not count out the left.

I wanted to share the words of Avner Less and his words about his interrogation of Adolf Eichmann from the Nuremburg Trials. I think it maybe valid in your thinking.

Less said this about the most important lesson he took away from 275 hours with the man who planned the logistics of the “Final Solution.”

Less observed that there are Adolf Eichmann’s everywhere. They are all around us, he said. He said they are “latent in a democracy,” but that in a “dictatorship of the left or right, they become deadly in an instant.”

Stephen Miller is a Little Eichmann, and he is far from alone.

Felice Bachrach's avatar

I agree and I know the writing of Less. I think the writings of Hannah Arendt are even more salient right now.

Scott Walker's avatar

I suggest you be VERY careful with this idea!

I think Trump would like nothing better- he could declare emergency and he would gladly kill Americans regardless of color creed or religion.

Scott Walker's avatar

Felice

I am not saying surrender or don't protest and use your first amendment rights. But I do suggest you be careful. Having been in a number of war zones and rebellions in my life I believe in the rule of law FIRST- then if all else fails.......Fight and be prepared for the worst. Remember you are dealing with a deranged Dictator Want a Be- very dangerous!

We don’t need to go to DC. tThere are literally hundreds of protests all arounf the country. I’m going the one in my city.

Bob Seemueller's avatar

2000 protests but DO NOT DO DC.

Diane1's avatar

Do NOT go to the Mall on Saturday!! Go to a NO Kings protest - there's over 2000 of them all over the country in cities and local towns.

https://www.nokings.org/

Kuguneenie's avatar

No DC there is a reason why NO KINGS aren’t having a protest there!

McBerner's avatar

Noem is already out there saying he didn't identify himself, yelled and rush the podium. Conservative media has picked that up and is running with it -- they are saying Padilla acted inappropriately. There's video showing him identify himself, but they don't care!

Julianna's avatar

It’s a race between how quickly these assholes get enough control and how quickly enough of his deluded base get personally hurt by what they’re doing to turn on Trump..

Jeanne Marie Ryan's avatar

Absolutely-Noem is blatantly lying. I watched the video. She is as pathetic as Trump!

Sam Dawson's avatar

WTF this is insane. Absolutely insane! No one is safe!!!!

Jeanne B.'s avatar

They are afraid to answer the questions, AND, they are looking for a bigger fight. They are looking to spark a civil war, it would seem.

Naima (NM)'s avatar

They also threw him to the floor and handcuffed him. He did not resist.

Joe's avatar

I don't like the way they pulled his arm behind his back so forcefully. Could have hurt him.

Candace Bartsch's avatar

The videographer was told to STOP filming per HuffPost.

Linda 1048's avatar

Kristi "Fat Lips"Noem is terrified to have this incident on video.

Jeanne B.'s avatar

What is going on? They should be impeached at once.

Nicole's avatar

They don’t “look like thugs”, they ARE thugs.

Allen B from MD's avatar

Kristi Noem is just another one of trump's "Bullshit Barbies", totally unqualified for her job. Just look at the dramatic change in her appearance just to please her master.

Lip fillers and cheek implants. God only knows what else she's had implanted as well. I'd say it's affected her brain, but that one has always been horrid!

This is mierda de toro

Liz O'Connor's avatar

I saw the video and that was one of the worst things I’ve seen so far. A US Senator should never be treated like that. Ever. It was definitely racially motivated. SHAME!
