Jim please have someone on to discuss the SAVE ACT just passed by Senate! And please, please have someone on who will tell us married women how to get ORIGINAL birth certificate because this bill makes you need as ID proof to go vote!!!

My understanding is that you would also need any marriage and divorce decrees to go with your birth certificate. Or a valid passport. It’s just a way to discourage women from exercising their right to vote.

Good point for married women. I was single at the time. So bleeping complicated when we agree to change our names like we're transferring ownership or something. I'd NEVER do it again.

Just a lay person here. It varies by state. In a lot of states you can get it from the Vital Records office in your county or contact the county in which you were born. Best thing is to look up policies for your state or call your county vital records office and ask them what you need to do.

My personal feeling is if your name has changed since birth, you are best off getting a passport if you don’t have one already but you will need a birth certificate for that.

I wrote a letter to the county where I was born and got a copy of mine with a seal. Took months, though. Wish you luck.

I ordered mine from the state in which I was born, California. It cost $58 for 2 copies, including shipping. A notary is required, for which I used an online one given by the site, which cost another $25. It estimates that it will take 45 days to receive. Also from California I ordered my marriage license/certificate. This had to be done through the County in which it was issued. The County did not process directly, but works through a site called VitalCheck. It cost $17, plus $20 UPS Air, plus $12.95 for the VitalCheck handling for a total of $49.95. I received it in 3 days. I have never had a passport, but I will get one. One also needs these documents to obtain a "Real ID" from the DMV.

I am lucky in that these fees do not crimp my budget too badly, but I know that will not be the case for many women and others who do not have these items already on hand. This is simply a voter suppression tactic and should not be allowed

to stand.

The House passed this bill yesterday foe a second time. This bill is sitting at the Senate. A filibuster by just one Democrat in the U.S. Senate can temporarily block the SAVE Act or any other legislation—unless the bill has the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture (end debate and move to a vote).

The Republican Party was "conservative." tRump 2.0 regime turned the Republican Party to "fascism." Gone is, as we knew it, the "conservative" party. MAGA is slowly figuring this out. Sadly, not all will.

I don't want to Biden-bash and keep rehashing what we should have done. That being said, it's worth some reflection and then a move forward! I'm an Independent with no hope in the Repubs right now, so I look to the Dems to find themselves, plot a plan, and move forward in unity. They need to look around and see who dems follow and look to for leadership, figure out what went wrong, get out there and listen to EVERYBODY, friend or foe, and talk about it, egos aside.

I’m a Democrat and I’m furious with Biden for not doing more to protect the country from Trump.

He should’ve never decided to run for a second term. What on earth was his family thinking? Were they all living in bubble? He tuned it all out. I don’t think Biden has Dementia. My own father has dementia as did his father. I know what dementia looks like.

Biden’s issue is age, extreme stubbornness, and maybe even some selfishness.

The man has good intentions overall, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Nobody had the guts to say what needed to be said. I’ll forever be grateful that Biden ran in 2020, but I’ll forever be angry that he wasn’t reasonable enough to recognize that he was in no physical or mental shape for another 4y.

If only Biden and RBG had stepped down… I am 100% sure that we wouldn’t be here. 😖

In 1968, while traveling through Franco's Spain with a friend, I learned a stark lesson. While in a local bar, I began a critique of the dictatorship and was quickly silenced, warned of potential negative repercussions. Being from America and naive, I thought the cautioning was a joke... but it defintely wasn't. That same suffocating anxiety, the fear of speaking freely, is speeding into our lives. People critical of Trump are now facing lawsuits, reporters have to fight to do their jobs, law firms and companies are learning to kiss the ring, students are fearful of being swept away, families are horrified of wrongly losing a loved one to ICE, and authors are being called treasonous for telling the truth This is not our America, Mr. Trump! You can try...and obviously you are...but you can't silence us!

You did great Barbara. Kamala Harris was a close second to Trump. She worked so hard on the campaign and voters were voting for Harris and Walz. With more time she may have won the swing states. It was very close.

Mr. Krugman, do you have any insight as to how it can be stopped? Would other countries be able to put pressure on us by selling Treasuries instead of going to 30-years? I read yesterday that the Fed is retreating from bonds into cash.
